The Problem with Existing GPS Apps
Generic fitness apps lose GPS data when you go off-grid, leaving gaps in your training log.
Cloud-dependent tracking fails in remote wilderness where mushers actually train.
No existing app combines GPS tracking with dog team management and health records.
GPS Built for the Wilderness
MushingPlan's offline-first GPS architecture records everything locally, then syncs when you reconnect. Never lose a training run again.
True Offline Recording
GPS data is captured and stored locally on your device. No network needed — everything from coordinates to timestamps to elevation is recorded with full fidelity.
Offline Map Tiles
Download map tiles before you head out. View your position on a real map even in areas with zero coverage. Plan routes and navigate trails without signal.
Automatic Sync
When you reconnect, all training data syncs seamlessly to the cloud. No manual upload, no lost data, no duplicates. It just works.
Garmin Watch Integration
Start tracking from your Garmin watch and have GPS, heart rate, and activity data flow directly into MushingPlan. Control sessions from your wrist in any weather.
Offline GPS Tracking — FAQ
How accurate is the offline GPS?
MushingPlan uses your device's native GPS hardware, which provides accuracy within 3–5 meters under open sky. This is the same accuracy as any GPS app — the difference is MushingPlan stores data locally so nothing is lost without signal.
How much storage do offline maps use?
Offline map tile storage varies by area size and detail level. A typical training region (50 km radius) uses approximately 200–500 MB. You can manage downloaded areas and clear old tiles to free space.
Does offline tracking drain my battery faster?
MushingPlan is optimized for battery efficiency during GPS recording. A typical 2-hour training session uses about 10–15% battery. You can adjust recording intervals to extend battery life on longer expeditions.
What happens if my phone dies during a run?
All GPS data recorded up to the point of shutdown is safely stored on your device. When you restart your phone, the partial track will be available in your training log. Using a Garmin watch as a backup ensures continuous recording.
